Best Push-Up Bars and Parallettes in Australia

Low push-up handles and tall parallettes are sold together and do different jobs. Height is the specification that decides it, and it is not recoverable after you buy.

Push-up bars and parallettes get sold as the same thing and used for completely different purposes. A low plastic handle lets you drop deeper into a push-up and keeps your wrist straight. A 20cm wooden parallette lets you do L-sits, tucked planches and shoulder work that needs ground clearance.

Buying the wrong height is the usual mistake, and it is not recoverable.

The short version

  • Best for most people: CALI SPORTS Wood Parallettes — enough height for L-sits, wooden grips that do not slip when your hands sweat.
  • Best budget: Readaeer Push Up Bars — under $20, rotating handles, fine for push-ups and nothing else.
  • Best mid-height: Teclor Steel Parallettes — 9.5 inches, which is the sweet spot between push-up depth and skill work.
  • Best stability: AmazeFan Parallettes — wide base, the most planted of the four.

Why height decides everything

A 10cm push-up handle gives you two things: a neutral wrist, and a few extra centimetres of depth at the bottom of a push-up. That is genuinely worth $19 if your wrists complain on the floor.

A 20cm parallette gives you ground clearance, and ground clearance is what makes L-sits, tuck planches and deep dips possible at all. If you want to train those, a low handle is useless no matter how well made.

The trade is storage and stability. Tall parallettes tip more easily and do not go in a drawer.

What actually matters

Base width versus height. A tall bar on a narrow base is a fall waiting to happen. Check the footprint, not just the height.

Grip material. Wood absorbs sweat and stays warm. Steel is more durable and genuinely unpleasant in a cold garage in July. Foam-wrapped plastic compresses and eventually tears.

Weight rating. The cheap plastic units are rated conservatively for a reason. If you are over about 100kg, this is the specification to read first.

Floor type. Rubber feet on tile are fine. On a rug, everything moves. None of these fix that.

Rotation. Readaeer's rotating handles are marketed as joint-friendly. In practice a rotating handle removes some stability demand, which is fine for push-ups and unhelpful for skill work.

Individual assessment

CALI SPORTS Calisthenics Wood Parallettes — $59.99, 4.6 from 918 ratings. The best all-round choice if you intend to progress past push-ups. Wooden grips are the most comfortable surface here for long sets. Sample is moderate, so treat the average as solid rather than settled.

Readaeer Push Up Bars — $18.99, 4.4 from 3,844 ratings. The largest sample on the page and honest about what it is. Buy it to fix wrist discomfort during push-ups. Do not buy it expecting to do L-sits.

Teclor Steel Push Up Bars — $59.99, 4.5 from 760 ratings. 9.5 inches is a genuinely well-judged height: enough clearance for tucked work, low enough to stay stable. Steel construction holds up. It is cold to the touch in winter, which sounds trivial until you train in a garage.

AmazeFan Parallettes Bars — $69.99, 4.6 from 500 ratings. The most planted of the four and the one we would pick for a heavier user. Smallest review sample here at 500, so the 4.6 is encouraging rather than proven, and it is the most expensive.

Who should skip these

If your wrists are fine and you are not chasing calisthenics skills, push-ups on the floor cost nothing. These solve two specific problems — wrist angle and ground clearance — and if you have neither, the money is better spent on gymnastic rings, which open up far more once you have somewhere to hang them.

FAQ

Can I do dips on parallettes? On the taller ones, yes, with bent knees. For full dips you want a dip station or rings.

Do they help wrist pain? They remove the extended-wrist position, which is the usual cause. If pain persists, see a physio rather than buying equipment.

Wood or steel? Wood for comfort, steel for durability. Neither is wrong.

Methodology

We compared heights, base dimensions, published weight ratings and the stability complaints in each listing's review sample. We have not trained on these units. Where a review sample is under about 1,000 ratings we say so rather than treating the average as settled.
