This review is built from Garmin's Amazon Australia listing (current pricing, rating and review volume) and a read-through of the most recent verified buyer reviews - not from physically operating the unit ourselves. Where a claim below has no independent testing behind it, that's noted rather than presented as measured fact.

Who it's for
People who follow a training plan and will change what they do based on what the watch says. Garmin's advantage over everything else in our fitness tracker comparison is the depth of its training-load and recovery modelling, plus on-board GPS that does not need your phone.
If you run, cycle or swim with any structure, this is the one device here that supports the sport rather than just counting it.
Who it's not for
Almost everyone buying their first tracker. If the goal is step counts and a rough idea of sleep quality, a $75 band gives you the same answer. Paying eleven times more for metrics you will not act on is the most common expensive mistake in this category, and we would rather say so plainly.
The 41mm case is also on the smaller side of Garmin's range — fine for most wrists, but worth checking if you want a larger display.
Pros
- Genuine training-load and recovery analysis, not just activity counting
- Built-in GPS, so no phone required on a run
- No ongoing subscription for the core features
- 8 GB of storage for offline music
- Well-established platform with a long software support history
Cons
- Price is in a completely different bracket to the rest of the category
- Overspecified for general fitness use
- Review sample of 1,702 is healthy but less settled than the budget bands
- Interface has a learning curve compared with Fitbit's
